Oftentimes, a surgical procedure will require a hospital stay. However, today’s healthcare allows many procedures to be performed in an outpatient setting. Franciscan St. James Surgery Center located at 333 Dixie Highway (on the north side of the WellGroup HealthPartners building) in Chicago Heights offers patients just that—inpatient care in the convenience of an outpatient setting.

Franciscan St. James Surgery Center offers same-day surgery patients the same excellent services as with inpatient surgical care—procedures performed by qualified physicians with surgical team support in a sterile environment. 

In 1978 Franciscan St. James Surgery Center was established and first certified by Medicare as an ambulatory surgery center. This top-of-the-line facility is comprised of three operating rooms, two procedures rooms and 16 pre-operative/step down recovery rooms.

Patients will be assisted by the Surgery Center staff to make an appointment that fits their schedules. All same-day surgeries include a recovery period following the procedures, where a patient is monitored by the outpatient surgery team. Following the recovery period, patients are afforded the convenience of returning home to continue their recovery in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. Once the patient returns home, the Surgery Center staff will follow up with the patient to answer any questions and ensure that recovery is proceeding smoothly and successfully.
