Karlene walks every day to control her diabetes. |
When a patient is confronted with diabetes, it's good to know that the team at St. James Center for Diabetes is ready to help. Located on our Olympia Fields Campus, the Center for Diabetes assists in the management of diabetes and its related complications, allowing individuals to lead a healthier, more satisfying life.
St. James was the first hospital in the South Suburbs to be accredited by the American Diabetes Association for the last 20 years, the Center continues to provide diabetes education and services to the surrounding communities. To make sure the highest level of care is maintained, the fully certified staff works closely with referring physicians to develop thorough treatment plans while national clinical trials bring new solutions to the forefront.
Under the direction of two board-certified Endocrinologists, patients work with a team that includes Certified Diabetes Educators, two Registered Nurses and two full-time Registered Dietitians. The team monitors and assesses patients every three to six months based on their circumstances and recommends individual treatment plans that best fit the patient's condition and lifestyle. Education on diet, exercise and medications is also covered, including information on the Insulin Pump and Continued Glucose Monitoring System (CGMS). Patients also have access to a counselor, ophthalmologist, kidney specialist, cardiologist and dentist to treat complications associated with diabetes.
Diabetes patients who are ready to take control of their health can find the solutions they need at St. James.
