The LAP-BAND ® System

The LAP-BAND ® System is a safe, effective, and well-established surgical option for severely obese patients. It was the first Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding system in the United States approved by the FDA for weight reduction. The LAP-BAND ® System is an inflatable band placed laparoscopically around the upper portion of the stomach. It provides restriction, limiting the amount of food that can be eaten at one sitting. Over time the band can be adjusted to help control hunger and appetite. Individuals with the band feel full on a smaller amount of food, leading to caloric restriction and weight loss.

Over 650,000 LAP-BAND ® System devices have been sold worldwide, with data supported by more than 1,850 publications and references with up to 16 years follow-up.
