Providing Spiritual Support
Franciscan St. James Health is a division of the Franciscan Alliance, and is under the sponsorship of the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration. We are dedicated to caring for the sick, fostering health and providing quality healthcare for all. As part of that care, Franciscan St. James is widely recognized throughout the community for our ability to provide spiritual and emotional support.
As part of our mission, all inpatients are visited by a chaplain within 24 hours of admission. This allows the chaplain to learn of the patient's spiritual concerns, as well as their physical and emotional needs. Our chaplains offer interfaith spiritual support and religious ministry. They work in collaboration with local pastors, ministers and rabbis to insure each individual's spiritual needs are met.
Our Chaplains are available 24 hours a day and can be reached through the hospital operator. They are also able to help patients and their families with Advance Directives.
Our closed circuit TV (Channel 28) brings Roman Catholic, as well as, interfaith services to our patient rooms and lounges. Our beautifully designed and inspirational chapels on each campus are open to all faiths 24 hours a day. Both chapels are handicap accessible and are located on the main floors of the hospital facilities.
Roman Catholic Mass is celebrated daily in our Chicago Heights Chapel, Monday through Friday at 6:45 a.m., and Sundays and Holy Days at 9:00 a.m. The interfaith Ecumenical Service is held every Sunday at 2:00 p.m. At our Olympia Fields campus Mass is celebrated at Noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Anointing and Communion rounds are also made daily.
